English/Writing Opportunity for Denver Area Students Between the Ages of 12-17
We bring creative, interactive authors, illustrators, and children’s book experts to your school. We can arrange school-wide student assemblies or smaller classroom presentations, depending on the author. Author visits in schools are fun, entertaining, educational, and memorable. And, there is no cost to the school to host these authors, since you’d be going through Tattered Cover Book Store. Read (a lot!) more about Author Visits. And, check out the:
A fun article on "Questions Children Have Asked Me at School Visits: An Incomplete List"!
See how impactful author visits with Tattered Cover can be:
"I just want to tell you that you are making a renewed impact on the community, and it's exciting for DENVER, not just for our school. Thank you!"
"I just wanted to give shoutout for the authors sponsored by the Tattered Cover. This is a great thing for schools. We had James Hannibal speak to all of our students. Kristen Gilligan, Tattered Cover owner, does all the work for you. That includes personalizing an order form to send home with your students and/or post on your website. The author was excellent with the kids, left time for questions, and of course autographed his books. A wonderful presentation."
"The great gust of wind you and your husband have brought to the Denver Metro area with all the improvements at the TC locations AND beyond are amazing! Thank you!"
"Thank you so much for making Jason Reynolds' author visit possible. He was amazing, and the kids are talking about reading and writing, which is the most important thing. I am so appreciative that we had a chance to host him. Our school rallied behind his books unlike anything I've ever seen, and he held our kids' attention better than any author (and lots of teachers) have ever done. ;) We are so grateful!"
"Wow!! What a performance Kwame Alexander puts on! Everything went perfectly, and Kwame and Randy were blown away by our red carpet Poetry Pep Rally greeting. They were literally floored - they could hear the kids screaming from outside the building. Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU for making this incredible experience happen for our students. Yay for you and Yay for Tattered Cover!! Your ever faithful and forever thankful fan and library servant."
"THANK YOU! Thank you again for a wonderful presentation. The students, teachers and staff are so impressed. We are getting a lot of positive feedback from students. The last class of 8th graders were captivated - wow! Good on you! They can be a tough crowd because they feel they are too old for middle school (e.g., sitting on the floor) and want to move on to high school (much like Addie Belle!). You make author visits a joy!"
"WOW! Words cannot describe how lucky we all felt having Ed Vere visit our school. Not only is he an amazing author and illustrator, but he is truly a delightful person. The presentation far exceeded anything we might have anticipated—his rapport with the children was absolutely remarkable. Thank you, thank you, thank you—we are indeed humbled and grateful."
"Just a quick note to thank you for the opportunities we've had with Laurie Halse Anderson and Gene Luen Yang. Both are incredible presenters and authors. Our students enjoyed them both immensely. Ms. Anderson just left and the enthusiasm and engagement the students showed was amazing. The Tattered Cover is a great asset to our community and I feel lucky to be part of the experiences you afford."

Expand the book fair horizon: have a book fair in the store! Pick a day to shop and a percentage of sales will be credited back to your school. We can showcase your school’s groups (art, music, etc.), tie the event into an author presentation at the store, or go on a book scavenger hunt. The possibilities are endless! For more information, please visit our In-Store Fundraiser page.
Our very first Educator Night was a smashing success! We'll definitely be doing this event again next year. It will be in early September 2018. What for details!
What is Tattered Cover Educator Night? This is a special event expressly for current school librarians, teachers and school administration in the Denver Metro area who are directly involved in literacy and getting kids to read. Enjoy a unique, fun-filled evening celebrating books and reading -- and you. Bring your educator friends! Teachers, principals, school librarians, etc. For more info, please click here.
We spend our days (and nights!) surrounded by books. Let us share our knowledge with educators or students! We can come to you or you can come to us and we’re happy to share the latest and upcoming treasures. Learn what’s on deck for your class’s favorite authors.
Kids love learning about how businesses work in the real world. Bring your class to Tattered Cover and we’ll give them a tour and discuss how our new and used books make their way to the shelves. Your class will learn about the value of independent bookstores, enjoy a private storytime, and get a coupon for their next visit.

WRITING CONTEST: In our annual Scary Story Contest, young Colorado writers in grades K-6 are invited to write an original mystery, suspenseful thriller, or humorous Halloween tale. Prizes abound. Special reception near Halloween.
BOOKMARK/ART CONTEST: In this annual contest, children create a colorful bookmark with a reading theme. The winning entries are printed and distributed to our customers during the year. Find out more here.
Work with your teacher to schedule a time when the class can come to the bookstore in the evening and have the teacher read the class a story -- maybe even in their pjs!
In our Booked For Summer program, kids read a book, submit a review, and receive prizes. We’ll display your review in the bookstore!
Every week, young children are invited for a half hour of stories and fun! For more information and times, please check here.
TATTERED COVER ASPEN GROVE: Young kids are invited to wear their favorite jammies and enjoy stories read aloud to them, participate in a fun activity, and eat healthy snacks provided by our local Whole Foods markets. We love fun and festive! Join us throughout the year as we celebrate seasonal events such as Halloween, the holidays, etc.
Every now and then we encounter a new children's book or series that we’re so excited about we want to broadcast it from the rooftop. We've created the Tattered Cover Kids' V.I.B. (Very Impressive Book) to highlight real stand-outs among the many delightful and meaningful new editions for young readers. Read more about it here.
Create an age-specific or themed book club for those who love to read and are passionate about and would like to discuss books. We’ll provide the venue and a discount for book club books.
